AN ORDINANCE
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT PRESCRIBING
RATES AND CHARGES FOR LOCAL EXCHANGE TELEPHONE
SERVICE FURNISHED BY SOUTHWESTERN BELL TELEPHONE
COMPANY.
WHEREAS, Southwestern Bell Telephone Company has appeared
before the City Council and has shown that the rates and charges
for local exchange telephone service heretofore prescribed have
proved insufficient to afford said Company a fair return on the
fair value of its property devoted to furnishing local exchange
telephone service in the Beaumont telephone exchange; and,
WHEREAS, the telephone requirements of the citizens of
The City of Beaumont, in the opinion of the City Council of
said City may best be served by the Southwestern Bell Telephone
Company continuing to provide Extended Area Service to the
China, Fannett, LaBelle, Lumberton, Nederland -Port Neches,
South Vidor, Vidor and Westbury exchange areas; and,
WHEREAS, the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company has
agreed to furnish said Extended Area Service;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF ,
BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
Section 1.
Southwestern Bell Telephone Company shall place in effect
the following schedule of rates for local exchange telephone
service on its first billing date after final passage of this
ordinance. In the event that all.or any part of said schedule
of rates may not be made effective under restraints issued
pursuant to the Economic Stabilization Act of 1970 (as it now
exists or may hereafter be amended) then said rate schedule or

any part thereof shall become effective to the extent permitted
by such restraints and shall be effective in full on the ex-
piration of such restraints.

(a) The rate for a flat rate PBX trunk is one and one-
half times the rate for one party business flat
rate service.
(b) Minimum local message revenue guarantee equal to
one party business flat rate service.
(c) The rate for flat rate Semi -Public Coin Telephone
service is 40% of the rate for one party business
flat rate service.
(d) Company standard rates to be applied to all types
of miscellaneous equipment and services not listed.
Section 2.
All ordinances heretofore passed by the City of Beaumont
establishing rates and charges for telephone service (except
the ordinance dated February 11, 1958, establishing a base rate
area). are hereby repealed effective with the establishment of
the rates authorized in Section 1 above.
Section 3.
Nothing contained in this ordinance shall be construed
now or hereafter as limiting or modifying, in any manner, the

right and power of the city under the law to regulate the rates
and charges of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
