HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 72-14LN/gh/2/10/72 ORDINANCE N0, v 3- /4 ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 12-19 AND 12-20 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS, BY INCREASING THE BASE PAY OF ALL GRADES IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY, AND BY DECREASING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN GRADE I OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY AND BY INCREASING THE NUMBER OF POSI- TIONS IN GRADES II AND IV OF THE POLICE DEPART- MENT OF THE CITY, AND BY INCREASING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN GRADE IV OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY, AND BY CHANGING SOME OF THE JOB TITLES WITHIN CERTAIN GRADES OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY; REPEALING ALL CONFLICTING ORDINANCES; AND PRO- VIDING FOR SEVERABILITY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY,OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS: Section 1. That Section 12-19 of the Code of Ordinances of Beau- mont, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows: "Sec. 12-19. Grades and classifications in police department. "All positions in the police department of the City of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified into the following grades, each grade having duties of substantially similar authority, importance and responsibility: "(1) Grade I. There shall be one hundred eighteen (118) positions i.n Grade I, said positions to include patrolmen. The base pay of every officer in this grade with less than six (6) months service shall be Six Hundred Nine and No/100 ($609.00) Dollars per month; and the base pay of every officer in this grade with more than six (6) months service but not more than eighteen (18) months service shall be Six Hundred Thirty -Nine and No/100 ($639.00) Dollars per month; and the base pay of every officer in this grade with more than eighteen (18) months service shall be Six Hundred Seventy -One and No/100 ($671.00) Dollars per month. "(2) Grade II. There shall be forty-nine (49) positions in Grade II, said positions to include sergeants. The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be Seven Hundred Forty and No/100 ($740.00) Dollars per month. "(3) Grade III. There shall be eight (8) posi- tions in Grade III, said positions to include police lieutenants. The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be Eight Hundred Sixteen and No/100 ($816.00) Dollars per month. "(4) Grade IV. There shall be eight (8) posi- tions in Grade IV, said positions to include police captains. The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be Nine Hundred and No/100 ($900.00) Dollars per month. "(5) Grade V. There shall be two (2) positions in Grade V, said positions to include police majors. The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be Nine Hundred Ninety -Two. and No/100 ($992.00) Dollars per month. 11(6) Grade VI. There shall be one (1) position in Grade VI, said position being assistant chief of police. The base pay of the officer in this grade shall be One Thousand One Hundred Forty -Nine and No/100 ($1,149.00) Dollars per month. Section. 2. That Section 12-20 of the Code of Ordinances of Beau- mont, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows: "Sec. 12-20. Grades and classifications in fire department. "All positions in the fire department of the City of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classifed into the following grades, each grade having duties of substantially similar authority, importance and responsibility: "(1) Grade I. There shall be ninety-six (96) positions in Grade I, said positions to include firefighters. The base pay of every fireman in this grade with less than six (6) months service shall be Six Hundred Nine and No/100 ($609.00) Dollars per month; and the base pay of every fire- man in this grade with more than six (6) months service but not more than eighteen (18) months ser- vice shall be Six Hundred Thirty -Nine and No/100 ($639.00) Dollars per month; and the base pay of every fireman in this grade with more than eighteen (18) months service shall be Six Hundred Seventy' -One and No/100 ($6.71.00) Dollars per month. -2- "(2) Grade II. There shall be fifty-nine (59) positions in Grade II, said positions .to include fire prevention investigator I and fire engineers. The base pay of every fireman in this grade shall be Seven Hundred Forty and No/100 ($740.00) Dollars per month. "(3) Grade III. There shall be forty-two (42) positions in Grade III, said positions to include fire captains and fire prevention investigators II. The base pay of every fireman in this grade shall be Eight Hundred Sixteen and No/100 ($816.00) Dollars per month. 11(4) Grade IV. There shall be twelve (12) positions in Grade IV, said positions to include district chiefs, fire dispatch supervisor, fire marshal, and training officer. The base pay of every fireman in this grade shall be Nine Hundred and No/100 ($900.00) Dollars per month. "(5) Grade V. There shall be three (3) posi- tions in Grade V, said positions to include deputy chiefs. The base pay of every fireman in this grade shall be Nine Hundred Ninety -Two and No/100 ($992.00) Dollars per month. "(6) Grade VI. There shall be one (1) position in Grade VI, said position being assistant fire chief. The base pay of the fireman in this grade shall be One Thousand One Hundred Forty -Nine and No/100 ($1,149.00) Dollars per month." Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 4. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance or the application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances shall, for any reason, be found to be invalid, such invalidity shall in no wise affect the re- maining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to.be severable. -3- PASSED by the City Council this the day of F-e:�tb a,6,r 31 1972.
