ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE.AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF
THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT
BY ADDING A NEW SECTION THERETO NUMBERED SEC-
TION 2-15; CREATING A BEAUMONT BICENTENNIAL COM-
MISSION AND ESTABLISHING THE DUTIES OF SAME.
WHEREAS, our Nation's 200th Anniversary will be cele-
brated in 1976; and
WHEREAS, the -Diamond Anniversary of Spindletop will also
be observed in.1976; and
WHEREAS, the City of Beaumont wishes to take an active
part in the Bicentennial Celebration and the observance of,Spin-
dletop's Diamond Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, the City Council is of the opinion that the
Beaumont Bicentennial Commission should be appointed to estab-
lish goals to be achieved and to coordinate the events and
activities of the Bicentennial. Celebration and the Diamond
Anniversary of Spindletop;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY
THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
Section 1.
That Chapter 2 of the Code of Ordinances of the City
of Beaumont is hereby amended by adding a new section thereto
numbered Section 2-15, which said new Section 2-15 shall read
as follows:
Section 2-15. Beaumont Bicentennial Commission.
"(a) There is hereby created a Beaumont
Bicentennial Commission to be composed
of ten (10) members who are resident citi-
zens of the City of Beaumont. The members
of the Commission shall be appointed by

the City Council for a term of.three
years, and all members of the Commission
shall be subject to removal at the will
and pleasure of the City Council. Mem-
bers of the Commission shall serve with-
out compensation. The City Council shall
name one of the members of the Commission
as chairman and one as vice-chairman.
Vacancies shall be filled by the City
Council.
(b) The Beaumont Bicentennial Commission
shall establish goals and programs, sub-
jectto review by the City Council, for
the celebration of the 200th anniversary
of the founding of our Nation and for
the observance of the 75th anniversary
of Spindletop. The Commission shall ad-
vise the City Council regarding partici-
pation by the City of Beaumont in the
celebration. The Commission shall serve
as a coordinating agency for all activi-
ties and events of the celebration. The
Commission shall perform such other and
further duties as may be from time to
time assigned to it by the City Council."
