HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 57 I I• ) .' l 6 6' 6g-¢1 ORDINANCE NO.I-S 4 1 ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 12-19 AND 12-20 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS, BY INCREASING THE BASE PAY OF CERTAIN GRADES IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY, AND BY INCREASING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN GRADE I OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY AND BY CHANGING SOME OF THE JOB TITLES WITHIN CERTAIN GRADES IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND FIRE DEPARTMENT'OF THE CITY; REPEALING ALL CONFLICTING ORDINANCES; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS: Section 1. That Section 12-19 of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows: "Sec. 12-19. Grades and classifications in police department. "All positions in the police department of the City of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified into the following grades, each grade having duties of substantially similar authority, importance and responsibility: "(1) Grade I. There shall be one hundred three (103) positions in Grade I, said positions to include patrolmen. The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be five hundred fifty ($550.00) dollars per month. "(2) Grade II. There shall be thirty-seven (37) positions in Grade II, said positions to include sergeants and detectives. The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be six hundred two ($602.00) dollars per month. "(3) Grade III. There shall be six (6) positions in Grace III, said positions to include lieutenants. The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be six hundred forty-seven ($647.00) dollars per month. "(4) Grade IV. There shall be five (5) positions in Grade IV, said positions to include captains. The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be six hundred ninety -eight -($698.00)' dollars per month. "(5) Grade V. There shall be two (2) positions in Grade+V, said positions to include inspectors. The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be eight hundred twenty-nine ($829.00) dollars .per month. "(6) Grade VI. There shall be one (1) position in Gra-e VT, said position being assistant chief of police. The base pay of the officer in this grade shall be nine hundred fifty ($950.00) dollars per month." Section 2. That Section 12-20 of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows: "Sec. 12-20. Grades and classifications in fire epartment. "All positions of the fire department of the City are hereby classified into the following grades, each grade having duties of substantially similar authority, importance and responsibility: 11(1) Grade I. There shall be eighty-four (84) positionsi.n Grade I, said positions to include pipemen and laddermen. The base pay of every fireman in this grade shall be five hundred fifty ($550.00) dollars per month. "(2) Grade II. There shall be fifty-five (55) positions in Grade II, said positions to include drivers and assistant to fire marshal. The base pay of every fireman in this grade shall be five hundred seventy-four ($574.00) dollars per month. 11(3) Grade III. There shall be thirty-seven (37) positions in Grade III, said positions to include captains, fire marshal and dispatchers. The base pay of every fireman in this grade shall be six hundred seven ($607.00) dollars per month. 11(4) Grade IV. There shall be seven (7) positions in Gra eIV, said positions to include battalion chiefs, and chief fire alarm dispatcher. The base pay of every fireman in this grade shall be six hundred forty-seven ($647.00) dollars per month. 11(5) Grade V. There shall be three (3) positions in Gra e V, said positions to include district chiefs. The base pay of every fireman.in this grade shall be six hundred ninety-eight ($698.00) dollars per month. f1(6) Grade VI. There shall be one (1) position in Grale VI, said position being drillmaster. The base pay of the fireman in this grade shall be eight hundred ten ($810000) dollars per month. 11(7) Grade VII. There shall be one (1) position in Grade VII, said position being assistant chief. The base pay of the fireman in this grade shall be nine hundred fifty ($950.00) dollars per month." -2- Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 4. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance or the application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances shall, for any reason be found to be invalid, such invalidity shall in no wise affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
