AN ORDINANCE 3- l- l 93 J' >4 ORDERING THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL rLECTION FOR THE CITY OF BEAUMONT FOR THE YEAR 1938, AS PROVIDED BY THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, ON THE DATE AND AT THE PLACESSET FORTH IN SAID ORDINANCE FOR THE PURPOSL OF ELECTING A IlLaYOR AND TEN (10 ) COUNCIL- MEN AS DESIGNATED IN SAID ORDINANCE; NAMING THE PLACES AT AEICH SAID ELECTION SHALL BE HELD AND DESIGNATING THE PLACES WHERE THE VOTERS SHALL VOTE; AND DECLARING _LAN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COM[UIISSION OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: Section 1 That in accordance with Section 26, Sub -section 4, of the Charter of the City of Beaumont and other provisions of said Charter, and the laws of the State of Texas relating thereto, there shall be held in the City -of Beaumont on the first Tuesday in April, 1938, the same being the 5th day of April, A. D. 1938, a regular municipal election for said City for the purpose of electing a Mayor; Three (3) Councilmen for the First Ward for a regular term of two years; One (1) Councilman for the First Ward for a term of one year; Three (3) Councilmen for the Second Ward; and Three (3) Councilmen for the Third Ward in said City, each for a regular term of two (2) years. Section 2 That said election shall be held in the City of Beaumont in the following places, to -wit: In the First Ward at the Junker School Building, Averill School Building and Central Fire Station. In the Second Ward at the Beaumont High School Building and the City Hall. In the Third Ward at the Sabine Pass Fire Station, David Crockett Junior High School Building, and'South Park Elementary School Building. That all voters residing in County voting precincts numbers 1 and 2 in the City shall vote at Junker School Building; that all voters residing in County voting precinct number 4 in the City shall vote at Averill School Building; that all voters residing in County voting precincts numbers 3, 6 and 7 in the City shEall vote at the Central Fire Station; that all voters residing in County voting pre- cinct number 5 in the City shall vote at Beaumont High School Build- ing; that all voters residing in County voting precincts numbers S and 9 in the City shall vote at the City Hull; that all voters residing in County voting precincts number 10, 13 and 14 shall vote at Sabine Pass Fire Strtion; that all voters residing in County voting precincts numbers 11 and 12 in the City shall vote at David Crockett Junior High School Building; and that all voters residing in County voting precincts number 15, 16 and 17 in the City shall vote at the South Park Elementary School Building. Section 3 The following named persons are appointed presiding judges for their respective voting boxes in said wards, with the authority to select and appoint their own clerks: f.. 3-1-193' ° #2. L. Brown At the Sabine Pass Fire Station Mrs. Ben Pipkin At the David Crockett Junior High School Building E;. J. Loew At the South Park Elementary School Building W. T. Wherry Section 4 That said election shall be held under, and the qualifica- tions of those voting thereat shall be controlled by the provisions of the State Laws governing elections. Section 5 That a copy of this ordinance signed by the Mayor of the City of Beaumont, and attested by the City Clerk thereof shall serve as proper and sufficient notice of said election, and the Mayor is hereby directed to cause a. copy of this ordinance, signed by himself and attested by the City Clerk, to be posted at each of the places herein designated for holding said election at least thirty (30) days prior to the date of holding said election. Section 6 That an ordinance has not yet been passed providing for and ordering a general municipal election for the year 1938, and that such ordinance is necessary, thereby creating an imperative public emergency necessitating the suspension of the rule requiring ordinances to be read on three separate days before their passage, wherefore, said rule is hereby suspended and this ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and the signature of the Mayor. COUNTY OF JEFFERSON : TO THE HONORABLE MAYOR, CITY CODAMISSION AND CLERK OF THE CITY OF BEAUJIONT, JEFFERSON COUNTY, TEXAS: We, the undersigned Chairman and Secretary of the City Democratic Executive Committee of the Democratic Party for the City of Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas, do hereby certify that at the Primary Election duly called and held, as provided by law.,- on aw,- on the 21+th day of February, A: D. 1938, with tbrx" voting boxes in the First Ward; two voting bo:�min the Second Ward, and three voting boxes in the Third Ward, for the purpose of selecting the. Nominees of the Democratic Party in said City to fill the following offices, to -wit: a) Mayor for the City of Beaumont. b) Three Councilmen for the First Ward, for two year term; and. one Councilman for the First Ward for one year term. WThree Councilmen for the S econd' Ward. Three Councilmen for the 'Third Ward. As provided by the Charter of the City of Beaumont, the following persons were duly selected as shown by the "RETURNS OF THE PRIMARY ELECTION" for the said positions named above and were duly and legally declared the Nominees of the Democratic Party of the said City of Beaumont by the Executive Committee "ACCORDING TO THE RETURNS" made by the presiding judges of the said Primary Election and are entitled to have their names duly printed on the "OFFICIAL BALLOT" in and for the General Election to be held in the City of Beaumont on the lst Tuesday in April, A. D. 1938; as the Nominees of the said Democratic Party for the said offices, to -wit: For Mayor: R. A. - COALE For Councilmen --First Ward - for two year term: B. B. Collins J. D. Birdwell N. G.
