Providing for the levy,assessing and collecting of taxes for the year P
1905 for the purpose of providing a sinking fund.to meet the payment of
the outstanding bonded .-indebtedness of 'the City of Beaumont and to pay
the accruing interest thereon;to provide for the support of the public
school's. of this city;t.o, repair and improve the streets,alleys and public
squares; to meet the current expenses'�.of the city government; to tax "occu-
patioAs and callings. -made taxable by law,and to collect a poll tax on all
able-bodied citizens over twenty-one and under -sixty years of age.
e:It Ordained By the City Council of the City of Beaumont,Texas:-
Section 1.That there is, hereby levied and shall hereafter be assessed and
collected for the year 1905 the following taxes on all property situated
within the corporate. -limits. of the City of Beaumont made taxable.by law
to -wit:
For the purpose.of' paying the general current expenses'of the city gov-
ernnent,and for general purposes forty cents(40cts) on each one hundred
dollars valuation;
For the support and maintainance of'the'public free schools, twenty five
cents(25cts.)on each one hundred dollars valuation;:
For the purpose of repairing and maintaining the streets,alleys,public"
squares and bridges of the city,twenty cents(20cts) on each one hundred.
dollars valuation;
For the purpose of .paying accruing interest and,to provide a sinking fund
for the payment of the outstanding bonded indebtedness of the city,fifty
cents(5Octs) on each one hundred dollars valuation.
Sec 2.That.there is hereby levied and shall be collected on all occupa-
tions and callings on which ocd.upation tax is levied by the State of
Texas,a sum equal to one half of the amount so levied by the State of
IS'ection 3.That there is hereby levied.and shall be collected a• -poll tax
of� One Dollar($l.00)' on each and every able bodied male- citizen of this
city between the ages of twe my one and sixty years,excepting and ex-
empting herefrom only those who may be exempted from the payment of
• such tax by the -Constitution and laws of the State of Texas.
That this Ordinance shall- take effect -'and be in -force from and after its
approval- and publication'.
