A N - O R D I N A N C E.
Providing for the levy, --assessing and collecting of taxes for
the year .1906 - ffOr the purpose of providing a sinking fund to meet
the payment of outstanding bonded indebtedness of the' City of
Beaumont an,d to -pay the accruing `interest thereon; to provide for
the support of the public sehools—of- this City;- to'rep'dir and'
improve -the streets, alleys and public -squares; toa'ineet the current
o
expenses of the City government; to tax occupations and callings
made taxable by law; to collect a poll, tax on all able- bodied
citizens over twenty -Pne and under' sixty years of age.
BE IT ORDAIZMD by the City Cbuneil•of the City of Beaumont,
Texas:
See.1-- That there is hereby levied -and -shall hereafter be
assessed and collected fortheyear 1906 -the following taxes on
all property situated within the corporate limits of the City of
soaunont,_made_taxable by -_law, -
to -wit ---
For the purpose of paying the general current
expenses of the City,government and for general purposes forty
cents (40 cts) on each one hundred dollars valuation.
For the support and. maintainanee of the public free
:schools, twenty five cents (25 cts } ori each one hundred dollars
valuat ion.
For the purpose of repairing and,m�intaining' the
Streets, alleys, publie•squares and bridges of the City' twenty
cents (20 cts) on each one hundr---ed dollars.valuation,
For the purpose of paying accruing interest'and,to__.._
provide a'sinking fund for,the-payment of the outstanding bonded
indebtedness of the City, fifty cents' -,(50- Cts) on each one hundred
dollars valuation*
500011— That there is hereby levied and shall be collected
on all occupations and callings on which an occupation tax is levied
by the State of Texas, a sum equal to one half of -the amount so

levied by the State of Teas on each respective occupation or
calling.
Sec.III- That there is hereby levied and shall be collected
a poll tax of -One Dollar ($I.00) on each. and every able bodied male
=- _ --- citizen -of ---this -City between -the ages -of --twenty one -and-sixty --
years, excepting and exempting herefrom those who may be exempted
from the payment of such tax by the Constitution and laws of the
State of Texas.
That this Ordinance shall take effect and to be
in force from and after its approval and publication.
