Guiding PhilosophX We commit to working together as a team to handle incidents and issues as efficiently, effectively and safely as possible. II. Purpose The purpose and goal of this policy is to detail the process and responsibilities for dispatchers to utilize when managing reports of a department vehicle having been involved in an accident. III. Process & Dispatcher's Responsibilities A. Whenever a report of a department vehicle accident is received from the field, the Dispatcher will: Deploy the following resources: a. Medical resources, as required. b. Law enforcement resources, as required. c. On-call Investigator. 2. Notify the following: a. Weekday business hours—The member or crew's on -duty Deputy Chief (Operations, Planning, Logistics) b. After-hours—The on -duty Operations Deputy Chief c. Assistant Chief d. Fire Chief City Attorney's off ceLiability Administrator Start a call for service in CAD. Assign the unit or apparatus involved in the accident and other responding units to the call. 4. If an employee requires hospitalization or is killed after hours, make the following additional notifications: a. City Human Resources Director b. City Safety Coordinator B. As requested by the Incident Commander, the Dispatcher will insure notification and deployment of the: 1. On-call Fire Fleet Maintenance Mechanic 2. Wrecker Service (coordinate with BPD Dispatch) C. After hours, if the dispatcher is unable to contact a Fire Fleet Maintenance Mechanic and towing assistance is needed for a fire department vehicle, the Dispatcher: 1. Is authorized to contact TNT Wrecker Service directly. 2. Will notify Command that contact could not be made with Fire Fleet Maintenance personnel and that TNT Wrecker has been deployed. 3. Advise BPD dispatch that TNT Wrecker has been deployed to tow a fire department vehicle. SOG 501.01 —Deployment to Department Vehicle Accidents Page 2 of 2
