Protocol A. Institute protocol "203.01A" for all patients. B. Assess and document pulse, motor, and sensation before and after splinting. C. Expose injury area. D. Cover open wounds with dry sterile dressing. E. Apply appropriate splint for specific injury. 1. No splints are to be removed from the patient until directed by a physician. 2. When in doubt, splint. F. Immobilize the joint above and below the injury site. 1. All patients requiring a sling will have a swathe applied also. 2.
