HomeMy WebLinkAboutSOG 203.01M Reviewed 5-2015 Chest TraumaI. Goal The goal of this policy is to define the standard of care for any patient presenting with chest trauma. Protocol A. Due to close proximity of vital organs, injuries to the chest can become quickly life threatening. Early recognition, prompt intervention and expeditious transport can make the difference between a patient living or dying. B. Institute protocol "203.01A" for all patients. C. Penetrating Chest Wound 1. Immediately cover with gloved hand. 2, Seal wound with plastic dressing (package of multi-trauma dressing). 3. Tape three sides, leaving bottom section open to act as a flutter valve. D. Flail Section 1. Immediately secure with gloved hand. 2. Secure with patients arm or other object that will stabilize flail section, E. Ina aled Object 1. Secure object to prevent excessive movement (object should be allowed to move with respiratory effort or heartbeat). F. Prepare for intmefliate transport.
