Guiding PhilosophX Statements of mission, vision and values exist so that members understand the department's obligations to the community as a whole, to individual citizens, other City workers and each other. These statements define the department's broad expectations of our members while working within the established service levels of the department. II. Purpose The purpose of this policy is to define and communicate the mission, vision, and values of Beaumont Fire -Rescue Services. III. Goals The goals of this policy are to communicate the: A. Mission statement for the fire department and general expectations for members. B. Future vision to which the fire department leadership and members aspire. C. Organizational values that fire department members strive to live by each and every day. IV. Mission Statement Beaumont Fire -Rescue Services is committed to protecting lives and property. To best achieve this mission, our members will consistently strive to live by our organizational motto and values: A. Prepared—Doing what it takes to keep our individual and collective knowledge up- to-date, skills sharp, and teams resilient. B. Pro icient—Doing what it takes to insure the job's done right the first time, so that our services are of the highest possible quality. C. Professional—Doing what it takes to help others see our members and our department as competent, committed, reliable, respectful, positive and helpful. V. Organizational Values The values of the department have been acquired through tradition, sacrifice, leadership, experience, and dedication. Our values include an appreciation for professionalism; team -based approaches to problem solving; and an every -day demonstration of the following: A. Intezrity in all we do. 1. Doing the right thing, even when it's difficult or unpopular. 2. Treating others with respect and dignity. 3. Valuing our diversity. B. Service to others. 1. Willingness to sacrifice oneself for the benefit of others. 2. Caring for and supporting those we can help. 3. Communicating and documenting significant events. C. Projress in the development of ourselves, our work groups, department and community. 1. Maintaining an attitude and state of constant readiness. 2. Seeking improvement and growth towards excellence. 3. Working together for the greater good. C Courage even in the face of adversity. 1. Facing our fears to so that our community and customers are best served. 2. Setting a positive example for others to follow. 3. Accepting responsibility and accountability for our actions. VI. Vision Statement Beaumont Fire -Rescue Services' vision is to be a world—class emergency response team by making consistent forward progress towards achieving the following: A. Consistently meetinz standards of safety and operational excellence. 1. Applying a managed -risk approach in all we do. 2. Meeting or exceeding the highest sustainable regulatory and industry standards. 3. Maintaining a positive and supportive work force. B. Creatinz an environment that is conducive to safety and operational excellence. 1. Committing to self—evaluation of performance. 2. Having open and respectful communications. 3. Respecting others' beliefs and ranks. 4. Working as a team. C. Fosterinz a reputation for safety and operational excellence. 1. Promoting honest and meaningful relationships. 2.
