Jul;; ;t z. �x 4 AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A CIVIL SERVICE +' SYSTEM FOR FIREMEN AND POLICEMEN IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS; ESTABLISHING A FIREMEN'S AND POLICE- MEN'S CIVIL SERVICE C0PWISSIoN; ESTABLISHING THE OFFICE OF DIRECTOR OF FIREMEN'S A\D POLICLNiENtS CIVIL SERVICE; PROVIDING FOR THE CLASSIFICATIUN OF ALL POLICEMEN AND FIREMEN, AND ESTABLISHING POSI'fZONS IN AND BASE PAY OF EACH CLASSIFICATION; REPEALING ALL w CONFLICTING ORDINANCES; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS' Section 1. In accordance with the provisions of the Firements and "Yol3ceiw n e Ctv'tl"Bery ce Act;'-tieing 'Artiele--1-2Ggm--of-t-he-Revisod Civil Statutes of Texas, which was adopted by the qualified voters of this city, there is hereby established a civil service s%stem for firemen and policemen in The City of Beaumont. x= Section 2. There is hereby established a Firasents and Policanents Civil Service' dommiss ion consisting of 'three (3) members who shall be appointed in accordance with the provisions of the Firements :t and Policemen' s Civil Service Act and shall serve without compen- nation. Any member of the Commission ntay be removed by the City Council for just, cause. Section 3. There is hereby establishod the office of Director of Fire- ments and Policemen's Civil Service, which shall be filled by the appointment of the Commission in accordance with the provisions of the Firemen's and Policemen's Civil Service Act. Said Director may be either a'member of the Commission, another employee of the City, or some other person. The City Council shall detee•mine what salary, if any, shall be paid to such Director. All positions in the Police Department of The City of Semi- mont, Texas, tare hereby classified into the following grades, each grade having duties of substantially similar authority, importance, and responsibility: (1) Grade I. There shall be eighty-five (85) Positions in Grade I, said positions to include Patrolmen and Tech- nicians in Identification Bureau. The base pay of all officers in this grade shall be Three Hundred and Seventy T, (i370.00) Dollars per month] however, the bane pay of all officers who have not served their six (6) Ap months' probationary period as a member of the Police Department shall be Two Hundred and Thirty (=230.00) „ Dollars per month. (2) Grade 1:Il. There shall be thirty-five (35) positions in Grade Ili said positions to include Sergeants, Detective", r .Dispatcherst and Assistant Superintendent of Identifica- "tion Bureau. There shall be three (3) positions in Grade III said positions to include Lieutenant, Juvenile Of- ficer,, and Superintendent of Identification Bureau. There shall be thirty-one (31) positions in Grade III, said positions to include Captains, Fire Mar- e shal, Dispatchers, and Mechanics. The base pay of all firemen in this grade shall be Throe Hundred and Ninety i # ($390.u0) Dollars per month. (a) Grade IV. There shall be seven (7) positions in Grade a, IV, said positions to include Battalion Chiefs and Chief Fire Alarm Dispatcher. The base pay of all firemen in this trade shall be Four Hundred and Ten (=410,00) Dollars ti per morith. (S) Grade V. There shall be three (3) positions in Grade V, said positions to include District Chiefs. The base pay " of all firemen in this grade shall be Four Hundred and Fifty-five (=4$$.00) Dollars per month. h r (6) Grade VI. There shall be one (1) position in Grade VI, said position being Drillmaster. The base pay of the fireman in this grade shall be Five Hundred and Thirty- five (:535.00) Dollars per month.
