Cooper, City Attorney Kyle Hayes, City Manager Tina Broussard, City Clerk The City Council of the City of Beaumont, Texas, met in a regular session on February 15, 2011 at the City Hall Council Chambers, 801 Main Street, Beaumont, Texas, at 1:30 p.m. to consider the following: OPENING Invocation Pledge of Allegiance Roll Call Presentations and Recognition Public Comment: Persons may speak on scheduled agenda items 1/Consent Agenda Consent Agenda Mayor Ames called the council meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Big Jim Salles of West End Baptist Church gave the invocation. Mayor Ames led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll call was made by Tina Broussard, City Clerk. Present at the meeting were Mayor Ames, Mayor Pro Tern Pate, Councilmembers Coleman, Wright, Samuel and Smith. Also present were Kyle Hayes, City Manager; Tyrone Cooper, City Attorney; Tina Broussard, City Clerk. Proclamations, Presentations, Recognitions Laurie Leister with Beautify Beaumont—Announced, Saturday, February 19, 2011,will be Arbor Day, Beautify Beaumont will have its 2nd Annual tree give away from 10:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m. at HEB and Parkdale Mall Presentation — Bart Bartkowiak, Director of Technology Services for the City introduced Trey Oster as the 2010 Employee of the Year for 911/311 Mayor Ames read the announcement regarding Executive Session being held at the conclusion of the General Business portion of the meeting. Councilmember Coleman seconded the motion. AT THEODORE JOHNS LIBRARY, THE NAACP FREEDOM FUND BANQUET WILL BE SATURDAY,FEBRUARY 19,2011, 7:00 P.M., AT THE COMPRO EVENTS CENTER, OUR MOTHER OF MERCY WILL BE HAVING THEIR MARDI GRAS PARADE ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19,2011 AT 10:00 A.M. J. D. Roberts 5475 Landry Ln. Beaumont TX Invited Council to participate in the 3`d Annual essay contest, asked that the Council get involved and assist in this effort, the essay would be titled "What Would Freedom Mean To Me" Louis Vaughn 9615 Mapes Beaumont TX Thanked Mr. Denard, and Mr. Shadden with the City of Beaumont, and Mr. Doug Kanep with DD6, for what they have done to alleviate the problems in the West Oakland Addition and the 11th St area, thanked Dr. Hani Tohme for the work that he has done with the flooding problems, Council for the Washington Blvd. pavement, also thanked Ms. Denise Boudreaux for helping with the completion of the paving of Westmoreland, announced that Councilmember Jamie Smith would be honored at Antioch Baptist Church, on Sunday, February 20, 2011, at 3:00 p.m., by the (NAUW) National Association of University Women Rex Johnson 4350 Chaison Beaumont TX Discussed several problems that he is having in Ward IV, stated that he spoke with Stephen Richardson with the Planning Department, was told to speak with the City Manager, left a message with the Manager's office that was never returned, his complaint is that there are dumpsters that are in violation of the City Code, asked that something be done in regards to the dumpster violations Open session of meeting recessed at 2:15 p.m. EXECUTIVE SESSION Consider matters related to contemplated or pending litigation in accordance with Section 551.071 of the Government Code: Texas Department of Transportation -Aviation Division (Airport Project Participation Agreement) Claim of Frederick Ogbutor There being no action taken in Executive Session, Council adjourned.
