WHEREAS,the City of Beaumont has experienced severe damage from hurricanes,
flooding, wildfires, and tornadoes on many occasions in the past century, resulting in
property loss, loss of life, economic hardship and threats to public safety and health; and,
WHEREAS, the Regional Hazard Mitigation Action Plan and the Jefferson County
Hazard Mitigation Action Plan have been developed after more than three years of
research and extensive work on the part of the City of Beaumont,Texas,Jefferson County,
the South EastTexas Regional Planning Commission(SETRPC)and numerous other local
jurisdiction professionals and community members; and,
WHEREAS, the Regional and Jefferson County Plans each recommend many
hazard mitigation actions that will protect the people and property affected by natural
hazards that impact the City of Beaumont and the South East Texas Region; and,
WHEREAS,three public meetings were held to review the Plan as required by law;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the Jefferson County Hazard Mitigation Action Plan and the South East Texas
Regional Hazard Mitigation Action Plan are hereby adopted as official plans for the City of
Beaumont.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City f Beaumont this the 31st day of
