BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT:
WHEREAS, Hurricane Rita caused major power outages throughout the City of
Beaumont; and
WHEREAS, these outages caused the sewer treatment system lift stations which
pump sewer waste to the reclamation plant for treatment to be out of service; and
WHEREAS,the unavailability of a sufficient number of generators and the demand
placed on the crippled system had the potential of introducing raw sewage into the outside
environment, creating public health problems; and
WHEREAS,the emergency nature of these public safety and health concerns made
it necessary to procure the services of Brystar Contracting, Inc., to provide pumps and
generators to empty tanks in order to mitigate the risk of sewer overflow until power could
be restored;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the City Manager be, and he is hereby, authorized to approve payment of an invoice
in the amount of$182,952 to Brystar Contracting, Inc. for services performed subsequent
to Hurricane Rita.
