AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF THE GENERAL
ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT ON THE 7TH DAY OF
MAY, 2005, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR, TWO
COUNCILMEMBERS-AT-LARGE, COUNCILMEMBER WARD I, II, III AND
IV; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Beaumont, in session, duly called the
general election to be held on the 7th of May, 2005, and the election returns of the ballots
cast in said election were canvassed for the following officials: Official for the office of
Mayor; Officials for the offices of Councilmembers-At-Large, Officials for the offices of
Councilmembers Ward I, II, III and IV.
WHEREAS, after duly canvassing said returns, the City Council finds that the votes
cast at said election for the candidates for said offices are as follows:
Office of Mavor: Votes Percentage
Guy Goodson 7,154 74.67%
Leroy Lewis III 678 7.08%
Allen Lee 1,748 18.25%
Office of Councilmember at Large:
Andrew P. Cokinos 2,544 16.12%
Roberto C. Flores Sr. 1,253 7.94%
Sandra Mitchell 1,076 6.82%
Jerry Whittington Sr. 2,014 12.77%
Becky Ames 5,294 33.55%
Donna L. Ferchak 2,184 13.84%
Ernest Bruce Hendrix Jr. 623 3.95%
Roy L. Malveaux 790 5.01%
Councilmember Ward I:
Timothy B. Chargois 806 28.63%
Dean L. Tucker 178 6.32%
Samuel Jackson 138 4.90%
Lulu L. Smith 1,693 60.14%
Councilmember Ward II:
Nancy Beaulieu 3,174 100.00%
Councilmember Ward III:
Audwin M. Samuel 867 76.19%
Delores Davis 271 23.81%
Councilmember Ward IV:
Bobbie J. Patterson 1,218 75.05%
Greg Stuessel 405 24.95%
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That the results of said regular City election be and the same are hereby declared
to have been as herein set out, and the following named persons were elected to the
respective positions subject to the taking of their oaths of office as provided by the laws of
the state of Texas:
For Mayor: Guy Goodson
For Councilmember-At-Large: Becky Ames
For Councilmember-At-Large: Andrew P. Cokinos
Councilmember Ward I: Lulu L. Smith
Councilmember Ward II: Nancy Beaulieu
Council member Ward III: Audwin M. Samuel
Councilmember Ward IV: Bobbie J. Patterson
Section 2.
The City Council of the City of Beaumont further finds that notice of said
election was duly and properly given as required by law, and that said election was duly
held and returns thereof were duly made by the proper officials of said election and in all
things according to law.
Section 3.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause, or phrase of this ordinance or the
application of same to a particular person, or to a particular set of circumstances, should
for any reason be held invalid, such invalidity shall in no way affect the remaining portions
of this ordinance and to such end, the various portions and provision of this ordinance are
declared to be severable.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Beaumont, this the 17th day of May, 2005.
