ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE III,
CHAPTER 2, SECTION 2-53(c) OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES TO PROVIDE THAT THE APPOINTMENT OF
CHAIRMEN AND VICE-CHAIRMEN OF CERTAIN BOARDS
AND COMMISSIONS MAY BE LIMITED TO TWO (2)
CONSECUTIVE ONE (1) YEAR TERMS; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL; AND
PROVIDING A PENALTY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That Chapter 2, Section 2-53(c)of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont be and
the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 2-53(c).
The Mayor shall appoint the chair and vice-chair of all boards and commissions
when the ordinance establishing the board or commission does not provide otherwise. The
appointment of chair and vice-chair shall be for one-year terms with a limit of two
consecutive years of service as chair and two consecutive years service as vice-chair of
the committee. Those members having served as chair or vice-chair shall be eligible for
reappointment if that member has been out of said office for a period of at least one year.
Any appointed member of any board or commission is eligible to serve in either or both
positions during their term of service on the board or commission.
Section 3.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the
application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances should for any reason
be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this
ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are
declared to be severable.
Section 4.
All ordinances or part of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent
of the conflict only.
Section 5.
That any person who violates any provision of this ordinance shall, upon conviction,
be punished as provided in Section 1-8 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont,
Texas.
