HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN MAY 05 1981 REGULAR SESSION CITY COUNCIL - CITY OF BEAUMONT HELD MAY 5 , 1981 BE IT REMEMBERED that the City Council of the City of Beaumont , Texas , met in regular session this the 5th day of May, 1981 , with the following pre-- sent : HONORABLE : Maurice Meyers Mayor Tom Combs, Jr. Councilman , 14Iard I Evelyn M. Lord Councilman , Ward II Calvin Williams Councilman , Ward III Wayne Turner. Councilman , Ward I:T Ray Riley City Manager R.' E . Platt Asst . City Manager Kenneth Wall City Attorney Myrtle Corgey City Clerk -000- The Invocation was led by the Reverend Jim Stephens , Minister of Educa- tion for Calvary Baptist Church. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Councilman Williams . 7000- Mayor Meyers issued the following proclamations : "Barbershop Harmony Week in Beaumont" - May 4--9, 1981 ; "National Transportation Week in Beaumont" - May 10-16', 1981 ; "Hospital Week in Beaumont'' - May 10-16 , 1981 ; "Physical Therapists Week in Beaumont" - May 10-16, 1981 ; and "Senior Center Week in Beaumont'." - May 10-16, 1981 . -000- The Minutes of the regular, City Council session held April 28, 1981 , were approved on a motion made by Councilman Combs and seconded by Councilman Turner. Question : Ayes: All Nayes : None -000-- Resolution No . 81-199 authorizing a project for water (6600' of 16" water line) and sewer (6600" of 6" sanitary sewer line) extensions to provide for industrial development west of Municipal Airport on U. S . 90 (requested by the Economic Development Foundation) was approved on a motion made by Councilman Combs and seconded by Councilman Turner. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 81-200 authorizing acquisition of Parcel #9 needed as right--of-- way for the Lindbergh Drive TIP Project - #82-B-561-475 -- ( 1862 . 5 square feet from Mobil Oil at a cost of $12 , 000. 00) was approved on a motion made by Councilman Turner and seconded by Councilman Combs . Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 81--201 authorizing sale of a strip of land to remove an encroach- ment from the Service Center site to Mr . & Mrs . Jack Brumley at $1 ,629. 00 was approved on a motion made by Councilman Lord and seconded by Councilman Combs . Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -.000 -67 May 5 , 1981 Resolution 81-202 authorizing employment of Orgain , Bell & Tucker as securities counsel for the TIP bond sale at a fee not to exceed $15 , 000. 00 was approved on a motion made by Councilman Combs and seconded by Council- man Turner. Question. : Ayes : Mayor Meyers Abstained : Councilman Councilman Combs Lord Councilman Williams Councilman Turner -000- Resolution 81-203 authorizing purchase of radio communications equipment from Graybar Electric Company; Motorola, Inc. ; and TWR Telecom, Inc. , to be used by Building Maintenance , Fire & Police Departments , was approved on a motion made by Councilman Combs and seconded by Councilman Lord. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 81-204 authorizing purchase of paint for swimming and wading pools (120 gallons of white waterproof and 15 gallons turquoise waterproof paint @ $9. 19 per gallon - $1 , 240. 65) from Russco Paint Mfg. Company was approved on a motion made by Councilman Combs and seconded by Councilman Lord. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 81-205 authorizing payment for a basic subscription to the Magazine Index for the reference section of the Beaumont Public Library from Information Access Corporation at a cost of $1 , 368 . 00 was approved on a motion made by Councilman Lord and seconded by Councilman Combs . Question : Ayes: All Nayes : None - 000- Councilman Lord questioned the removal of litter receptacles from the down- town area. City Manager to report . 000, Mayor ,Meyers announced plans for `-'Robert Crippen Day" to be held May 18th. Captain Crippen is an Astronaut and was a pilot on the space shuttle Columbia.. Plans for the day include news conferences , downtown Parade and fun for all . -000- Mr. Raymond Chaison , 1130 Lamar , addressed Council to request replacement of stop signs on Lamar Street . Mr. Chaison expressed his concern for the safety of the residents in the area and sited a recent accident where a child was hit by an automobile. Mrs. Delia Harrington , 815 Willow Street , addressed Council to report water leaks at Grand and Hazel and McFaddin and Forrest and also to complain about weeds growing around Gulf States Utilities and Southwestern Bell Telephone Poles. 000 There being no further business , the meeting was recessed before continuing with the City Council Workshop Session . -000-r I , Myrtle Corgey, City Clerk of the City of Beaumont , Texas, certify that the above is a true copy of the Minutes of the regular City Council session held May 5, 1981 .
