HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN JAN 24 1978 REGULAR SESSION CITY COUNCIL - CITY OF BEAUMONT HELD JANUARY 24, 1978 BE IT REMEMBERED that the City Council of the City of Beaumont , Texas , met in regular session this the 24th day of January, 1978 , with the following present : HONORABLE : Ken Ritter Mayor Don Cash Councilman , Ward I Vi McGinnis Councilwoman, Ward II Calvin Williams Councilman, Ward III Leroy Evans Councilman , Ward IV R. E. Platt Acting City Manager Lane Nichols Asst . City Attorney Myrtle Corgey City Clerk -000- The Invocation was given by the Reverend W. J. Treece, United Pentecostal Church. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Councilman Cash. -000- Mayor Ritter welcomed 65 American History Students from French High School to today ' s meeting. -000- The Minutes of the regular City Council session held January 17, 1978 , were approved on a motion made by Councilman Evans and seconded by Councilman Williams. Question : Ayes: All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 78-34 authorizing the award of bid to Pitney Bowes for fur- nishing one (1) check signer at a cost of $1950. 00 was approved on a motion made by Councilman Cash and seconded by Councilwoman McGinnis. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 78-35 authorizing payment to Williamson Insurance Agency for the second-year billing of a "Dishonesty, Disappearance and Destruction Bond" , #F 14 41 31 - cost $3 , 708. 00, and a "Public Employees Blanket Bond" #F 14 41 29 - cost $5, 267. 00, was approved on a motion made by Council- woman McGinnis and seconded by Councilman Evans . Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 78-36 accepting additional collateral in the amount of $2 ; 767 ,000 which has been purchased and pledged to the City ' s Time and Demand Deposits by the American National Bank was approved on a motion made by Councilwoman McGinnis and seconded by Councilman Cash. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 78-37 authorizing City participation in oversize water and sewer lines in Windemere Subdivision (not to exceed $8 , 122 . 00 for water lines and not to exceed $9, 504. 00 for sewer lines) was approved on a motion made by Councilman Cash and seconded by Councilwoman McGinnis. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -14- January 24, 1978 Resolution 78-38 authorizing the acceptance, for City maintenance, the water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and concrete pavement improvements in Brownwood Addition (Pepperwood and Silverwood Lanes) was approved on a motion made by Councilwoman McGinnis and seconded by Councilman Cash. Question: Ayes: All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 78-39 authorizing the acceptance for City maintenance the water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer , and concrete pavement improvements in Willow Creek. Commercial Park (Wespark Drive) was approved on a motion made by Councilman Evans and seconded by Councilwoman McGinnis. Question: Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 78-40 authorizing the acceptance for City maintenance the water , sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and concrete pavement improvements in Marshall Place, Unit II (Marshall Place Drive, Stacewood Drive and Marshall Woods Drive) was approved on a motion made by Councilman Cash and seconded by Councilwoman McGinnis. Question : Ayes: All Nayes : None -000- Ordinance No. 78-9 setting February 7, 1978 at 10 :45 a.m. in the City Council Chambers for a public hearing on the proposed annexation of pro- perty by the City of Beaumont was considered: ORDINANCE NO. 78-9 ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE SETTING A DATE, TIME AND PLACE FOR A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PRO- POSED ANNEXATION OF CERTAIN PROPERTY BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS; AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO PUBLISH NOTICE OF SUCH PUBLIC HEARING; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. The ordinance was approved on a motion made by Councilman Cash and seconded by Councilwoman McGinnis. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- The date of January 31 , 1978 was set for a dilapidated structures hearing for 126 structures on a motion made by Councilwoman McGinnis and seconded by Councilman Cash. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 78-41 approving a Deferred Compensation Plan for City employees and officials and retaining the firm of Financial Industries Service Corp . as the plan administrator was approved on a motion made by Councilman Evans and seconded by Councilman Cash. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Miss Pam Denard, 7781 Lawrence Drive, asked if Lawrence Drive would be re- paired.
