HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN MAY 04 1976 REGULAR CITY COUNCIL - CITY OF BEAUMONT HELD MAY 4, 1976 BE IT REMEMBERED that the City Council of the City of Beaumont, Texas, met in regular session this the 4th day of May, 1976, with the following present: HONORABLE: Ken Ritter mayvz Don Cash Counc,ilman, Ward I Vi McGinnis Councilwoman, Ward II Calvin Williams Councilman, Ward III Leroy Evans Ward IV Howard McDaniel Acting City Manager Kenneth Wall City Attorney Myrtle Corgey City Clerk -000- The Invocation was given by the Reverend Dyson Nickle, St. James Episcopal Church. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Councilman -00o- The Mayor issued the following proclamations: "Ann Landers Day in Beaumont" May 6, 1976; "Goodwill Week in and for Beaumont" - May 2-8 , 1976; and "Beaumont Action for Foster Children Week" - May 9-15, 1976. Mr. Dan Nisley, director for Goodwill, presented Council a plaque "with appre- ciation to the City of Beaumont for service to the Handicapped - Goodwill In- dustries, 1976" . -000- The Minutes of the Regular City Council Session held April 27, 1976, were ap- proved on a motion made by Councilwoman McGinnis and seconded by Councilman Evans. Question: Ayes: All Nayes: None -000- Resolution 76-144 authorizing the award of bids for furnishing a contract for liquid chlorine for City Departments to Jones Chemicals, Inc. in the amount of $222. 60/ton, this being the lowest and best bid received, was approved on a motion made by Councilman Evans and seconded by Councilman Cash. Question: Ayes: All Nayes: None -000- Resolution 76-145 authorizing the award of bids for furnishing annual tire con- tracts for truck, heavy equipment and farm tire purchase to Jack®s Tire Ser- vice Co. and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. , based on individual tire sizes, for a total of $48 ,803.18; and for recapping and repairing to Jack®s Tire Service Co. in the amount of $9,666. 54 , was approved on a motion made by Councilman Williams and seconded by Councilman Cash. (Contract May 1, 1976-April 30, 1977) Question: Ayes: All Nayes: None -000- Ordinance 76-58 authorizing the abandonment of a portion of Cunningham Street from East Virginia to Alabama Street was considered: -70- May 4 , 1976 ORDINANCE NO. 76-58 ENTITLED AN 0TZ')1T17'xNCE VACATING AND ABANDON- ING A PORTION 07 CUNN11117HAM STREET BETWEEt! EAST VIRGINIA STREET AND ALABAMA AVENUE, PROVIDING THAT A GENERAL UTILITY EASEMENT IS RETAINED, IN THE LAMAR ADDITION IN BEAU- MONT, JEFFERSON COUNTY, TEXAS, AS DESCRIBED HEREIN. The ordinance was approved on a motion made by Councilman Cash and seconded by Councilwoman McGinnis. Question: Ayes : All Nayes: None A public hearing to consider the closing of a portion of East Virginia has been scheduled for the .regular joint City Council/Planning & Zoning Commission meet- ing May 17, 1976. -000- Resolution 76-146 authorizing final payment to Holloway Sand & Gravel Company for construction work on sanitary sewer Contract III-B_ in the amount of $88,902.63 ( IPC-TEX-975) was approved on a motion made by Councilwoman McGinnis and secon- ded by Councilman Williams. Question: Ayes: All Nayes: None -000- Ordinance No. 76-59 authorizing transfer of funds in the amount of $4 ,338 from Account 79-420 (Contingency) to Account 16-509 (Capital Outlay) - repair of a portion of the Naval Reserve .Building to be used as office space for Environ- mental Control - was considered: ORDINANCE NO. 76-59 ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE TRANS- FER IN THE AMOUNT OF $4,338.00 FROM ACCOUNT NO. 79-420 TO ACCOUNT NO. 16-509. The ordinance was approved on a motion made by Councilman Williams and seconded by Councilman Evans. All Nayes: None -000- A public hearing on Entex rate increase request was not set pending completion of paperwork, etc. -000- Resolution 76-148 authorizing -payment -for final drive repair on Dozer #50-0644 to World Wide Welding .& Press, in the amount of $3,159. 92, was approved on a motion made by Councilman Williams and seconded by Councilman Evans. '?uestion: Ayes: All Nayes: None -000- Resolution 76-149 authorizing .the .execution of the continued manpower Consor- tium Agreement between the City of Beaumont, Jefferson County, Hardin County and Orange County through fiscal year 1977 (CETA)- was approved on a motion made by Councilman Williams and seconded by Councilwoman McGinnis.
