HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN MAY 06 1975 REGULAR SESSION CITY COUNCIL - CITY OF BEAUMONT HELD MAY 6, 1975 BE IT REMEMBERED that the City Council of the City of Beaumont, Texas, met in regular session this the 6th day of May, 1975, with the following present: HONORABLE: Ken Ritter Mayor Don Cash Councilman, Ward I Vi McGinnis Councilwoman, Ward II Calvin Williams Councilman, Ward III Leroy Evans Councilman, Ward I Appointed Officials: Kenneth Devero Cite Manager Kenneth Wall City Attorney -000- The Invocation was given by Reverend Sam Jernigan, Westgate Church of Christ. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Councilman Cash. -000- Mayor Ritter issued the following proclamations : "A.B.W.A. Scholarship Month in Beaumont" - May, 1975; "Mental Health Month in Beaumont" - May, 1975; "Nur- sing Home Week in Beaumont" - May 11-17, 1975; and Exchange Clubs ' "Golden Deeds Day" ®9 May 6, 1975. -000- The minutes of the regular session of the City Council held April 29 , 1975 , were approved on a motion made by Councilwoman McGinnis and seconded by Coun- cilman Evans. Question: Ayes: All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 75-173 amending the Revenue Sharing Budget in the amount of $664, 735 . 76 for transfer of funds to the C.I.P. Street Fund was approved on a motion made by Councilman Cash and seconded by Councilman Evans© (11-ST-01, $72,171. 91; 11-ST-02, $38 , 955. 20; 11-ST-03 , $173,793 .60; and $136 ,232 . 00 for I!-ST-08 -- $243, 583 . 05 for lighting on Phelan Bled. Phase I and current right- of-way and engineering in CIP Street projects. ) Question: Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 75174 authorizing the award of contract to Greer Construction Company in the amount of $498 ,810.60 for furnishing necessary materials, equipment, superintendence and labor for construction of University Drive, this being the lowest and best bid received, was approved on a motion made by Councilman Cash and seconded by Councilwoman McGinnis. Question: Ayes: All Nayes : None -000-- Resolution 75-175 authorizing the award of bids for furnishing Remote Pump Station Operation Equipment for the Water Production Department to Autocon, Division of Control Data, Inc. , in the amount of $9,284 .00, this being the lowest and best bid received, was approved on a motion made by Councilwoman McGinnis and seconded by Councilman Evans , Question: Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- -82- May 6 , 1975 Resolution 75-176 authorizing the City Manager to apply for a continuation grant for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program for the six month period of July 1 through December 31, 1975 , was approved on a motion made by Coun- cilwoman McGinnis and seconded by Councilman Evans. Question: Ayes: All Nayes : None -000® Resolution 75-177 appointing auctioneer - Rene' Bates, Auctioneers, Inc. - and setting the date for the City Auction for June 28, 1975, was approved on a motion made by Councilman. Evans and seconded by Councilwoman McGinnis. Question: Ayes : All. Nayes : None -000® Resolution 75-178 approving SETRPCPs Fiscal Year, 1976 Comprehensive Manpower Plan was approved on a motion made by Councilman Williams and seconded by Councilman Evans. Mr. John Bartlett, Director of Manpower Program with SETRPC, addressed the Council to briefly state the goals of 1976 . Question: Ayes: All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 75-179 authorizing the emergence repair of a motor of a bulldozer (estimated to cost $5,500000) and a transmission of a garbage truck (estimated to cost $2,000. 00) for the Solid Waste Department was approved on a motion made by Councilman Evans and seconded by Councilwoman McGinnis. Question: Ayes: All Nayes : None -000- Mr. Buddy Chatagnier, 5035 Shelley Drive, addressed the Council to thank them for the prompt action in response to citizens ® request for the paving of Walden Road. Mrs. Beverly Williams, 4465 Diamond, presented a petition containing 133 sig- natures concerning the Fish Market in the 1900 block of West Virginia, Mr. E. R. Dupuis, 8825 Jean Street, addressed Council to request assistance concerning a drainage problem at his Mobile Home Park, 6590 College Street. After discussion by Council and Staff, Mr. Dupuis was asked to confer further with Mr. Deland, City Engineer, tc see if the problem could be solved jointly, Mayor Ritter called an Executive Session pursuant to Section 2 of the Texas Open Meeting Law.
