HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN FEB 11 1975 REGULAR SESSION CITY COUNCIL - CITY OF BEAUMONT HELD FEBRUARY 11, 1975 BE IT REMEMBERED that the City Council of the City of Beaumont, Texas, met in regular session this the 11th day of February, 1975, with the following present: HONORABLE: Ken Ritter Mayor Don Cash Councilman, Ward I Vi McGinnis Councilwoman, Ward II Calvin Williams Councilman, Ward III Leroy Evans Councilman, Ward IV Appointed Officials: Kenneth Devero City Manager Kenneth Wall City Attorney Myrtle Corgey City Clerk -000- The Invocation was given by Reverend Harry Robinson, Associate Pastor of First Christian Church. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Councilman Cash. -000- The Mayor issued two proclamations-, "Sertoma Freedom Week in Beaumont" - Feb- ruary 17-23 , 1975 and "LULAC Week in Beaumont" - February 17-23 , 1975. -000- The minutes of the regular session of the City Council held February 4 , 1975, were approved on a motion made by Councilman Evans and seconded by Councilman Cash. Question: Ayes: All Nayes : None -000- The award of bid for furnishing one (1) Rubber-Tired Front End Loader for the Solid Waste Department to Michel Machinery as the lowest bidder to meet speci- fications ($31,250.77) was approved on a motion made by Councilman Cash and seconded by Councilman Williams and Councilwoman McGinnis. Question: Ayes : All Nayes; None -000- Resolution 75-49 authorizing, the award of .informal bids for furnishing 850 ' of 22" fire hose to replace that damaged in the Goodyear fire to Claude Wright and Associates in the amount of $1, 487 . 50, this being the lowest and best bid received (City to be reimbursed by Goodyear) , was approved on a motion made by Councilman Evans and seconded by Councilman Williams. Question: Ayes: All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 75-50 authorizing the award of bids for furnishing one (1) control- ler cabinet for the Traffic, and Transportation Department to Automatic Signal Company in the amount of $3 , 870. 00, plus freight, this being the only bid re- ceived, was approved on a motion made by Councilman Williams and seconded by Councilwoman McGinnis. Question: Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 75-51 authorizing .theaward of bids for furnishing road materials for the- various City Departments as follows: aggregate ($8 .50/ton) , limestone base material ($5. 50/ton) , hot mix-cold lay paving mixture ($15. 00/ton) , reef -22- February 11, 1975 oyster shell ($7 . 00/ton) , and sand shell. mix ($6.65/ton) .to Keown Supply Co. ; Liquid Asphalts - MC2 (37� gal. ) , RC2 (34� gal. )., A0175 ($0.2425 gal. ) , and MC (37� gal. ) to Gulf States Asphalt; and cold mix asphalts ($9.50/ton) to Whitels Mines, the bids being the lowest and best .bids received, was approved on a motion made by Councilmen Cash and seconded by Councilman Williams. (Bids are for 90 day period beginning February, 11 through May 12 , 1975) Question: Ayes: All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 75-52 authorizing appointment of architects for the CAP Civic Center Complex (Steinman, Gordy & Huffhines for the Municipal Office Building; Pitts, Phelps & White for the Civic Center; and Rex Goode & Milton Bell for the re- modeling of the City Auditorium .and Gruen Associates as Associate Architects on all three projects was approved on a motion made by Councilman Cash and se- conded by Councilwoman McGinnis. Question: Ayes : All Nayes: None -000- Resolution 75-53 authorizing the payment of premiums for fire :and extended cov- erage for new CIP facilities in the amount of $11, 004 ..00 (Police-Municipal Court Building - 11-B-01, Beaumont Public Library - 11-B--02, and Fire Training Tower - 11-B-03 , and Sprott Park facility) was approved on a motion made by Councilwoman McGinnis and seconded by Councilman Cash., Question: Ayes: All Nayes : None -000- Mayor Ritter gave a report on a meeting held Monday by the Community Develop- ment Block Grant Advisory Committee and .the Council and. City Staff to discuss the Block Grant application. Community Development Director listed the main topics discussed which were.: Housing, Health. Social .Services, Neighborhood Preservation, Pedestrian-Bicycle Safety, Recreation, and Environmental Quality or Beautification. -oo- Mr. Thad Heartfield, Attorney for Michel Machinery, addressed the Council to express his appreciation for the amount. of time spent on the bid award for the Rubber-Tired Front ,End Loader_ and stated he .would like to discuss, at a future date, his recommendation concerning a Committee for the bidding process. -000- Mayor Ritter reminded everyone that the dedication ceremonies for the Police- Municipal Court Building are scheduled to be at 2 : 00 p.m. , February 16, 1975, and invited all to attend., -000- There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. -000- I, Myrtle Corgey, City Clerk of the City of Beaumont, Texas, certify that the above is a true copy of the minutes of the regular session of the City Council held February 11, 1975.
