HomeMy WebLinkAboutOCT 08 1974 REGULAR SESSION CITY COUNCIL - CITY OF BEAUMONT HELD OCTOBER 8, 1974 BE IT REMEMBERED that the City Council of the City of Beaumont, Texas, met in regular session this the 8th day of October, 1974, with the following present: HONORABLE: Ken Ritter Mayor Don Cash Councilman, Ward I Vi McGinnis Councilwoman, Ward II Calvin Williams Councilman, Ward III Leroy Evans Councilman, Ward IV Appointed Officials: Kenneth Wall City Attorney Myrtle Corgey City Clerk Howard McDaniel Asst. City Manager -000- The Invocation was given by Dr. Ron Cherry, Highland Baptist Church. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Councilman Evans. -000- The Mayor issued one proclamation: "Bob Hope Day in Beaumont" - October 8 , 1974 . -000- Mr. Ed Collins, President, and Mr. Clinton Harris, Fair Chairman, of the Y.M.B.L. presented Council with passes to the South East Texas State Fair which opens October 11, 1974. This year 's theme is "Howdy, Neighbor". -000- The new City Flag was displayed in Council Chambers and will soon fly over the Tourist Information Bureau on IH-10. -000- The Minutes of the regular City Council session held September 24, 1974, were approved on a motion made by Councilman Cash and seconded by Councilwoman Mc- Ginnis. Question: Ayes: All Nayes: None -000- Resolution 74-371 authorizing the award of bid for furnishing five 8-yd. con- tainers for the Solid Waste Department from Duncan Equipment Company in the amount of $1, 875. 00, this being the lowest and best of informal bids received, was approved on a motion made by Councilman Cash and seconded by Councilman Evans. Question: Ayes: All Nayes: None -000- Resolution 74-372 authorizing the award of bid on repair parts (48-6" Dresser 160 Bell Joint Clamps, and 12-12" Dresser 160 Bell Joint Clamps) for the Water and Sewer Maintenance Department equipment from Dresser Mfg. Co. in the amount of $1, 311.48, this being the lowest and best of informal bids received was ap- proved on a motion made by Councilwoman McGinnis and seconded by Councilman Cash. Question: Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- -199- October 8 , 1974 i I Permission to advertise for bids for chain link fencing for the material site at the new Water Service Center on Langham Road (1850 ") and to replace the chain link fencing at the present site of the Water Department on Interstate 10 (13001 ) was granted on a motion made by Councilman Williams and seconded by Councilwoman McGinnis. Question: Ayes : All Nayes: None -000- Resolution 74-373 appointing an outside auditor for review of the financial statements for the year ending September 30, 1974, was approved on a motion made by Councilman Cash and seconded by Mayor Ritter. Question: Ayes: Mayor Ritter Nayes: Councilman Williams Councilman Cash Abstained: Councilman Councilwoman McGinnis Evans -000- Resolution 74-374 authorizing adjustment to oil lines owned by Cities Ser- vice Company on FM 3120 at an estimated cost of $24 ,548 . 00 was approved on a motion made by Councilman Evans and seconded by Councilman Williams. Question: Ayes: All Nayes : None -000- Mayor Ritter read from a letter received by Mr. Victor J. Rogers, Chairman of the Beaumont Bicentennial Commission from the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission of Texas approving Beaumont as a "Bicentennial City" . -000- There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. -000- I, Myrtle Corgey, City Clerk of the City of Beaumont, Texas, certify that the above is a true copy of the minutes of the regular City Council session held October 8, 1974. Question: Ayes All Nayes : None -000- A Public Hearing for Entex rate increase request was set for October 15, 1974 on a motion made by Councilman Cash and seconded by Councilman Evans. Question: Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Mayor Ritter read from a letter received by My. Victor j.
