HomeMy WebLinkAboutMAR 28 1974 SPECIAL SESSION CITY COUNCIL - CITY OF BEAUMONT HELD MARCH 28, 1974 BE IT REMEMBERED that the City Council of the City of Beaumont, Texas, met in special session this 28th day of March, 1974 , with the following pre- sent: HONORABLE: Ken Ritter Mayor Don Cash Councilman, Ward I George Dishman, Jr. Councilman, Ward II Calvin Williams Councilman, Ward III Leroy Evans Councilman, Ward IV Kenneth Devero City Manager Howard McDaniel Asst. City Manager Kenneth Wall City Attorney Myrtle Corgey City Clerk Joe Impey Dir. Community Develop. Dean Ransom Finance Officer Eddie Whitnell Dir. Traffic & Trans. -000- A resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into an agreement with the counties of Jefferson, Orange, and Hardin for areawide manpower programming was considered after a summarization of the program by Mr. John Bartlett of Manpower: A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the United States Department of Labor has set forth the possibility for local general purpose governmental units to cooperate and jointly serve as Prime Sponsor for manpower and related services under the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act of 1973; and WHEREAS, the purpose of such a joint sponsorship is to provide effi- cient delivery of manpower and related services for the entire labor market area of Orange, Hardin and Jefferson Counties; and WHEREAS, the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission has served, and will continue to serve, as the chief administrative unit with responsi- bility for operation of the Comprehensive Manpower Program to be created in the consortium agreement; now therefore BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Beaumont hereby authorizes the participation by the City of Beaumont in the consortium agree- ment, with Orange, Hardin and Jefferson Counties. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the unification of the planning and imple- mentation of manpower and related programs on a labor market-wide basis serves to strengthen the cooperation among and between the various governmental entities of South East Texas.
