The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Councilman Williams. -000- The Minutes of the regular meeting of the City Council held January 8 , 1974 were approved on a motion made by Councilman Williams and seconded by Coun- cilman Dishman. Question: Ayes: All Nayes: None -000- In response to an advertisement previously published, the following bids for furnishing h-ton van for the Fleet Maintenance Department to be assigned to the Police Department Public Service Unit were received: Caraway Motor Company NO BID Kinsel Ford, Inc. $ 4 , 017 . 50 The bids were referred to the City Manager and staff for study and recommenda- tion on a motion made by Councilman Williams and seconded by Councilman Dish- man. Question: Ayes: All Nayes: None -000- In response to an advertisement previously published, the following bids for furnishing one 1, 000 GPM pumper for the Fire Department were received: American LaFrance with brass piping $45,498. 00 with galvanized piping $44 , 994. 00 Ward LaFrance , _La_ ith brass piping $44,206. 00 with galvanized piping $43,711. 00 The bids were referred to the City Manager . and staff . for study and recommenda- tion on a motion made by Councilman Cash and seconded by Councilman Dishman. Question: Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- A resolution authorizing the award of bid for furnishing eighteen (18) auto- mobiles for- the Fleet Maintenance Department for use in the Police service to Beaumont Motor- Company in the. amount of $66,387. 96 as the lowest and best bidder was approved on, a .motion made by Councilman Williams and seconded by Councilman Cash. Question: Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- A resolution approving plans and- specifications. and, authorizing advertising for bids for the construction of street .and-drainage improvements on East Lucas from Eastex Freeway. to Magnolia. (CIP Project 11-ST-04) was approved on a motion. made by Councilman Cash and seconded by. Councilman Dishman. Question: Ayes: All Nayes : None -000- An ordinance authorizing publication of .Notice for Sale of bonds and certi- ficates of obligation was introduced and read: ORDINANCE NO. 74-2 ORDINANCE AUTITORIZING PUBLICATION OF NOTICE OF SALE OF $1, 000, 000 SEWER SYSTEM BONDS, SERIES 1974, AND $1,120, 000 SEWER SYSTEM CERTIFICATES OF OBLIGATION, SERIES 1974 . The ordinance was approved -on a motion made by Councilman Dishman and se- conded by Councilman Cash. question: Ayes: All Nayes: None -000- Mr. Bill Key, outside Auditor for - the City, presented the City' s Annual Finance Report for October, 1972 thru September, 1973. -000- Mr. H. C. Hendrix, Beaumont Independent School .District, urged the Council to make a -decision,concerning . City property, located in the old Multimax area which is wanted by the School Board to use for a football stadium. Mr. Ben Rogers, 2030 . Thomas . Road, addressed the.. Council .as President of the Babe Zaharias Foundation, - stated ,that. his group- had-met, with the School Board and both had- agreed to- combine- projects by.naming the proposed stadium "Babe Zaharias Memorial --Stadiumll . and. placing . all -of the Babe Zaharias mementos in the lobby ,of such , stadium and, he, too, urged favorable consideration of this request. Mr. A. W. Shannon, Superintendent,of .the Beaumont. Independent School District, also addressed the -Council urging the Council to make a decision concerning this request. -000- Councilman Dishman, stated-that- he was generally in , favor of this project but felt that the School District should pay for the land at fair market value. -000- -2- United States Judge Joe. Fisher-gave the Oath of, Office. to the newly appointed members of the Beaumont Bi-Centennial Commission— Those present were: Mr. Vic Rogers, -Mr. - John Geis, -Mr. .. Gerald- Clark, .Mr. - Auvie Wheeler, Mrs. Jan Lamb, Dr. Browning ..Ware, , Dr. - Harvey Johnson, Mr. Lindy Dennis, Mrs. Sally Bundy, and Mr. Darrell Mack. Those not in..attendance- at the - installation were Mr. Pike Powers, Dr. Ed Bowles, Mr. Ken Ruddy, Mr. George McLaughlin, and Mr. Mike Cokinos. -000- The City Manager reminded that_a..public meeting to..discuss street improvements for Washington, Boulevard, from. Fourth Street - to the Freeway would be held this date, January. 15, 1974, at 7 :30 p.m. in the Fire Station on Washington Boule- vard. -000- A citizen, name and - address unobtainable, requested-. a , copy of the 1972-73 Annual Finance Report.
