WHEREAS, the legendary country and western singer George Jones is a native of
this area; and,
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that this area honor George Jones by the naming of
a facility; and,
WHEREAS,it has been proposed that Orange County,Jefferson County and the City
of Beaumont request the Texas Department of Transportation to name the Interstate
Highway 10 Neches River Bridge in honor of George Jones;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the City of Beaumont hereby requests and approves the naming of the Interstate
Highway 10 Neches River Bridge in honor of George Jones as the "George Jones Bridge."
