HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 94-101 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the total volume of cases filed in the Municipal Court of the City of Beaumont has decreased in the last five (5) years; and WHEREAS, the necessity of arraigning prisoners at the new Jefferson County Jail has resulted in significant transportation and logistical problems for the Court; and WHEREAS, City Council believes that if the Court is restructured, greater efficiency in the use of personnel for less cost may be possible; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: THAT the position of full-time Chief Magistrate is hereby abolished and the full- time Chief Magistrate is not reappointed to such position. THAT there is hereby created the position of part-time Chief Magistrate to be filled by City Council in the future on a competitive basis. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the City Clerk, City Manager and City Attorney are hereby directed to recommend to City Council how best to compensate and restaff the Court with one (1) or more additional part-time magistrates to effectively deal with the case load, arraignments and other duties of the Court.
