RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Texas Main Street Project of the Texas Historical Commission
provides assistance to cities in revitalization of historic commercial areas through
development of public/private partnerships; and,
WHEREAS, up to three cities in the 50,000-and-over population range will be
selected to participate in the 1992 Urban Main Street Program; and,
WHEREAS, Beaumont is particularly rich in historic traditions embodied in the
architecture of its commercial centers; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to restore and preserve these historic places
for enhancement of the quality of life and development and diversification of the economy;
and,
WHEREAS, the Urban Main Street program offers significant assistance toward
goals of historic preservation and revitalization; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT it shall be the policy of the City of Beaumont to endorse the filing of an application
for selection as one of the Urban Main Street participating cities for 1992 and provide all
possible cooperation including financial support for revitalization of a targeted business
district within the context of preservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings.
