WHEREAS, on March 5, 1991, the City Council of the City of Beaumont awarded a
contract in the amount of $3,299,161.19 to Russ Miller Construction Company for
Improvements to College Street - Goliad to Main; and,
WHEREAS, during the course of construction work in the section of the project between
Archie and Main streets, it was discovered that, during previous construction of a 36 and 42
inch storm sewer, backfilling of the storm sewer was accomplished using sand. This is
unsuitable backfill under pavement as any breach in the storm sewer would allow the sand to
be washed away leaving a cavity under the pavement; and,
WHEREAS, to remedy this existing condition, it is recommended that approximately
1788 cubic yards of sand be removed from above the storm sewer and be replaced with
compacted cement stabilized sand;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
That the City Manager, be, and he is hereby authorized, to execute Change Order No. 2,
increasing the contract time by seven (7) days and the amount by $58,288.80 to $3,482,449.99
to Russ Miller Construction Company for labor, materials, equipment and supervision required
for construction of College Street.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont on this the
day of 1991.
