RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Independent School Districts in Texas have been granted an exemption from
the payment of state taxes on gasoline under Section 153 of the Tax Code effective September
1, 1991; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Beaumont and all cities in Texas have seen a reduction in
sources of income and have found it necessary to economize and seek all methods by which to
minimize costs and maximize such revenues; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Beaumont desires to support an exemption from state sales tax
on the use of gasoline products in publicly operated vehicles such as that provided to
independent school districts;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the City of Beaumont supports and encourages the passage of legislation exempting cities
from the payment of state taxes on gasoline products to be used in publicly operated vehicles
and encourages other municipalities in Texas to support this effort.
