HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 89-209 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Governor Clements called for the construction of additional prison beds in his legislative requests; and, WHEREAS, the Texas Board of Corrections requested funding for construction of additional prison beds; and, WHEREAS, the Texas Legislature appropriated funds for the construction of additional prison beds; and, WHEREAS, Senate Joint Resolution 24 was enacted during the 71st Legislative Session; and, WHEREAS, SJR 24 proposes an amendment to the Texas Constitution providing for the issuance of general obligation bonds for acquiring, constructing, or equipping corrections institutions, youth corrections institutions, statewide law enforcement facilities, and mental health and mental retardation institutions; and, WHEREAS, SJR 24 will appear on the November 7, 1989 general election ballot as Proposition No. 8; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: THAT the City of Beaumont supports the passage of Proposition No. 8. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Beaumont encourages its citizens to vote in the November 7, 1989 general election and to vote "Yes" on Proposition No. 8. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Beaumont encourages other municipalities in Texas to support efforts in e-FI- Z 0� /0 --:3 1 favor of Proposition No. 8 and to resolve in support of passage of Proposition No. 8.
