WHEREAS, the City of Beaumont recognizes that the establishment, development,
and maintenance of a program of traffic safety in the State is a vital government purpose and
function of the State and its legal and political subdivisions; and,
WHEREAS, a traffic safety grant will provide benefits to the community in the
form of a reduction in the number of accidents and the resulting loss of lives and property
damages; and,
WHEREAS, funds have been established and are available through the State
Department of Highways and Public Transportation for grants to local governments for traffic
safety projects;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City Council authorizes the
submission of applications to the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation for
the following traffic safety grants: Occupant Protection/S.T.E.P. and TRASER/S.T.E.P; and,
if the projects are selected for funding, the City Manager of the City of Beaumont is hereby
authorized and empowered to execute in the name of the City of Beaumont all necessary
applications, contracts, and agreements to implement and carry out the purposes specified in
this resolution.
