HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 88-232 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, a group of volunteers in the South Park community have requested the support and assistance of the City in cleaning and beautifying the Irving Street area as a portion of the Southend Community Uplift Program; and WHEREAS, as part of that program, the owners of three ( 3 ) private structures have authorized their demolition by either volunteers or City forces; and WHEREAS, there is a significant contribution of money, labor, materials and equipment by the private sector to this effort; and WHEREAS , the City believes that it is in the best interest of the health, safety and welfare of the entire City of Beaumont that the structures be demolished by the City at no charge to the property owners; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: THAT the City hereby approves a project of demolition and cleanup on Irving Street to be performed primarily by volunteer workers who have contributed money, labor, materials and equipment to this effort and agrees, as necessary, to provide support to this effort by carrying out the demolition of a maximum of three (3 ) structures as no charge to the owner thereof. The financial commitment of the City of Beaumont is limited to Seven Thousand Dollars ( $7,000 . 00 ) and is strictly dependent upon significant volunteer support in the Irving Street cleanup and the City Council hereby establishes criteria for future demolition projects by the City as follows: ( 1 ) The demolition by the City will be part of a major community-based cleanup project in which the majority of the labor, funds, materials and equipment are provided by the private sector. (2 ) The project must be one the City Council finds to be of benefit to the health, safety and welfare of the entire community. (3 ) The financial commitment of the City shall not exceed Seven Thousand Dollars ( $7, 000 . 00 ) . PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont this the day of , 1988. a - 2 -
