R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the future of this nation is dependent on the
emergence of persons with leadership skills and abilities; and
WHEREAS, such leadership skills and abilities are more
easily acquired through participatory exercises and real-life
situations; and
WHEREAS, the City of Beaumont will to provide such an
experience once per year; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Beaumont
does hereby create a "Mayor for a Day" program to provide such a
real-life experience to an interested and qualified person;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT there is hereby established the "Mayor for a Day" program,
said program to provide the experience of presiding at a City
Council meeting and the administrative function required to carry
out such role to a person to be selected by the Mayor.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the "Mayor for a Day" shall
be provided the opportunity to preside under the auspices of the
Mayor or the Mayor Pro Tem and with their approval, but shall
have no legal authority.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Anthony Holmes, Lamar
University liaison to the City Council of the City of Beaumont,
is hereby appointed as the first "Mayor for a Day" and
shall preside under the auspices of Mayor Pro Tem Audwin Samuel
at the City Council meeting to be held October 25, 1988.
