R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Browning Ferris Industries has contacted the
City and indicated that it was intending to submit an application
to the Texas Department of Health for a Type I municipal landfill
permit; and
WHEREAS, the proposed location of this site is
approximately one-half ( 1 /2 ) mile south of the southern city
limits of Beaumont on LaBelle Road; and
WHEREAS, this location is near Tyrrell Park and within
the extra-territorial jurisdiction of the City of Beaumont; and
WHEREAS, those portions of both LaBelle Road and Frint
Road which are within the city limits would be exposed to
additional heavy truck traffic and such roads are not presently
constructed to handle such traffic; and
FOR THESE REASONS AND OTHERS, the City of Beaumont is
presently opposed to the location of a Type I municipal landfill
at the site selected by Browning Ferris Industries for a proposed
landfill;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the City of Beaumont hereby formally opposes a Type I
municipal landfill as proposed by Browning Ferris Industries on
LaBelle Road approximately one-half (1 /2) mile south of the
southern city limits of the City of Beaumont.
