WHEREAS, on May 2 , 1988 , bids were received for the
remodeling and conversion of the Szafir Building to house the new
Texas Energy Museum; and,
WHEREAS, the lowest bid, including two (2 ) alternates,
submitted by Daniels Building Construction, Inc. , in the amount
of $1 ,234 ,590 .00 , exceeds by $484,590.00 the money available for
construction; and,
WHEREAS, the City desires to award the base bid and two
(2 ) alternatives, the first in the amount of $18, 420. 00 for
finishing work on the lecture room and the second in the amount
of $56 , 470 . 00 for finishing work on the area to house the
Spindletop Collection to Daniels Building Construction, Inc.
contingent upon entering into a new lease agreement with Lamar
University and the Texas Energy Museum to provide additional
funds;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the bid of Daniels Building Construction, Inc. , in the
amount of $1 , 234,590 .00 for the base bid and two (2 )
alternatives, the first for finishing work on the lecture room
and the second for finishing work on the area to house the
Spindletop Collection be, and the same is hereby, contingently
accepted. The bid of Daniels Building Construction, Inc. is
accepted contingent upon the City of Beaumont executing a new
