WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Beaumont
desires to develop a viable urban community including the
expansion of the quantity and improvement of the duality of
emergency shelters for the homeless; and,
WHEREAS, certain conditions exist which represent a
threat to the health and safety of the homeless; and,
WHEREAS, it is necessary and in the best interests of
the City of Beaumont to apply for funding under the 1988 Texas
Emergency Shelter Grants Program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT a Texas Emergency Shelter Grants Program application is
hereby authorized to be filed on behalf of the City of Beaumont
with the Texas Department of Community Affairs.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City' s application be
placed in competition for funding under the Emergency Shelter
Grants Fund.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the application be for One
Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ( $150, 000 ) of grant funds to carry
out the rehabilitation of the Old Fire Station. No. 9 (875
College) for the use as an Emergency Shelter for the Homeless.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it be stated that the City
of Beaumont is committing a One Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollar
($150 , 000 ) match which represents the appraised value of the
building to be rehabilitated.
