R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, in spite of the dedication and best efforts of
our law enforcement community, we find that the crime rate
continues to rise and that our Texas businesses and law abiding
citizens continue to needlessly suffer; and,
WHEREAS, the problems caused by crime and criminal acts
being visited upon our citizens is unacceptable and must be
rectified; and,
WHEREAS, the first function of government at all levels
is to protect and safeguard the lives and propoerty of its
citizens; and,
WHEREAS, cities throughout Texas are presently working in
a cooperative endeavor to identify solutions which may be
implemented unilaterally by the cities and those which require
state legislative action; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the need to support
this cooperative endeavor to identify a solution to the problems of
crime;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the City Council of the City of Beaumont supports a strong
well-rounded anti-crime package to be presented to the 70th Session
of the Texas Legislature to convene in January, 1987.
