HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 85-071 7e- �'S- 71 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, economic conditions in the region have resulted in layoffs, reduced production, wage and benefit concessions and a general economic downturn; and WHEREAS, because of such economic conditions, the City Council recognizes that service reductions may be necessary within City government; and WHEREAS, the City is also committed to increasing productivity and efficiency in city government in order to assure that needed services are provided at the lowest possible cost; and WHEREAS, in order to reinforce this emphasis, the City Council wants to quantify its intent to implement those changes necessary to assure cost-effective delivery of municipal services by stating its intention to work with City staff to reduce the tax rate in the city for Fiscal Year 1986 from the proposed eighty-one cent (81jfl rate to seventy-two cents (72j6) per one-hundred dollars ($100.00) valuation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT; THAT the City Manager and staff are hereby directed to prepare and present to Council a proposed budget for the 1986 Fiscal Year which can be supported by a tax rate of seventy-two cents ($0 .72) per one-hundred dollars ($100.00) valuation. Council hereby declares its intent to make all reasonable efforts to adopt a budget which provides for such a tax rate decrease.
