HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 83-114 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 82-292 adopted August 10 , 1982, a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit "A" , the City Council expressed its intention that the City of Beaumont purchase seating to be installed in Lamar University' s Vincent-Beck Stadium to accommodate a professional baseball team now called the Golden Gators, at a total purchase price of $125,000 , subject to satisfactory financing; and, WHEREAS, satisfactory financing has been arranged pursuant to which the seating will be purchased and owned by the Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau , an agency of the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, funded by receipts of the City' s hotel/motel occupancy tax; and, WHEREAS, the fiscal 1983 appropriation of hotel/motel occupancy tax funds to the Convention and Visitors Bureau includes $ 25,000 for the purchase of seating; and, WHEREAS, the Convention and Visitors Bureau has arranged to borrow the balance of the purchase price; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: THAT the City Council, by this resolution, expresses its intent to appropriate annually from hotel/motel occupancy tax funds the sum of $25,000 , plus accrued interest on the loan, to the Convention and Visitors Bureau until such loan and all interest thereon is paid. PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont this the IJK D— �day of 1983. Mayor R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, T. E. Moor, Jr. , owner of the Amarillo Gold Sox, a professional baseball team, has proposed moving said team from Amarillo to Beaumont; and, WHEREAS, location of a professional baseball team in Beaumont would have substantial positive effect on the economy of Beaumont and Southeast Texas, including the attraction of more visitors and convention delegates to Beaumont; and, WHEREAS, it is proposed that the team will play its home games at Lamar University's Vincent-Beck Stadium which will require improvements; and, WHEREAS, said improvements will require financial participation in the amount of one hundred twenty-five thousand dollars ($125,000.00) by the City of Beaumont in the acquisition of seating for the facility; and, WHEREAS, such expenditure may be appropriately made from revenues derived from the Hotel/Motel Occupancy Tax; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: THAT the City of Beaumont endorses and supports the efforts of the owner of the Amarillo Gold Sox to move said baseball team from Amarillo to Beaumont; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Beaumont expresses its intent to purchase seating at a cost of $1250000. 00 to be paid from the revenues derived from the Hotel/Motel Occupancy Tax, subject to its ability to enter into satisfactory financing arrangements.
