Moor, Jr. , owner of the Amarillo Gold Sox, a professional baseball team, has proposed moving said team from Amarillo to Beaumont; and, WHEREAS, location of a professional baseball team in Beaumont would have substantial positive effect on the economy of Beaumont and Southeast Texas, including the attraction of more visitors and convention delegates to Beaumont; and, WHEREAS, it is proposed that the team will play its home games at Lamar University' s Vincent-Beck Stadium which will require improvements; and, WHEREAS, said improvements will require financial participation in the amount of one hundred twenty-five thousand dollars ($125,000. 00) by the City of Beaumont in the acquisition of seating for the facility; and, WHEREAS, such expenditure may be appropriately made from revenues derived from the Hotel/Motel Occupancy Tax; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: THAT the City of Beaumont endorses and supports the efforts of the owner of the Amarillo Gold Sox to move said baseball team from Amarillo to Beaumont; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Beaumont expresses its intent to purchase seating at a cost of $125,000. 00 to be paid from the revenues derived from the Hotel/Motel Occupancy Tax , subject to its ability to enter into satisfactory financing arrangements.
