HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 97-65 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, there are numerous bills pending in the legislature whose purpose is erosion of the annexation authority of home-rule cities; and WHEREAS, the annexation power of home-rule cities is important to the orderly growth and the control of the environs which are the natural area for the expansion of a city's boundaries; and WHEREAS, the power of annexation is crucial to the ability of a city to contract with those industries within its extra-territorial jurisdiction for payments in lieu of taxes; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Beaumont believes that any attempt to lessen the authority of home-rule cities to annex property or to lessen a city's extra-territorial jurisdiction should be defeated; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: That the City Council unanimously opposes those bills which would reduce the authority of home-rule cities to annex and further opposes those bills which would lessen the extra- territorial jurisdiction of any city in the State of Texas.
