ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS FOR THE OFFICE OF COUNCILMEMBER, WARD IV, OF THE RUNOFF ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT ON THE 20TH DAY OF MAY, 1995; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND PROVIDING FOR REPEAL. WHEREAS, a runoff election was held in the City of Beaumont on the 20th day of May, 1995, for the election of a Councilmember, Ward IV; and, WHEREAS, the returns of said election were canvassed on the 23rd day of May, 1995; and, WHEREAS, a recount of the returns for the office of Councilmember, Ward IV, was requested prior to such canvass; and, WHEREAS, a recount of such Councilmember, Ward IV's race was conducted on May 25, 1995; and, WHEREAS, as a result of said recount in the election returns thereof there were 1,094 votes cast in said election and were canvassed for the official: For the officer for the office of Councilmember, Ward IV. WHEREAS, after duly canvassing said returns, the City Council finds that the votes cast at said election for the officer for the office of Councilmember, Ward IV, were as follows: For Councilmember, Ward IV: Votes Get Williams 540 Bobbie Patterson 541 1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: Section 1. THAT the results of said regular city election for the officer for the office of Councilmember, Ward IV, be and the same are hereby declared to have been as herein set out and the following named person was elected to the following office: For Councilmember, Ward IV: Bobbie Patterson The City Council of the City of Beaumont further finds that notice of said election was duly and properly given as required by law and provided in the ordinance calling for said election and that said election was duly and regularly held and returns thereof were duly and regularly made by the proper officials of said election and in all things according to law. Section 2. That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance or the application of same to a particular person, or to a particular set of circumstances, should for any reason be held invalid, such invalidity shall in no way affect the remaining portions of this ordinance and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable. Section 3. That all ordinances and parats of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont this the day of 1995. Mayor - 2
