ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE DRUG
FREE BEAUMONT COMMISSION; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY AND PROVIDING FOR REPEAL.
WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Beaumont established a "Mayor's Coalition For
a Drug Free Beaumont" charged with the task of fighting substance abuse in Beaumont;
and,
WHEREAS, it is desired that the "Mayor's Coalition For a Drug Free Beaumont" be
established as a commission of the City of Beaumont;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY
THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
THAT there is hereby created the "Drug Free Beaumont Commission" composed of fifteen
(15) members. The Drug Free Beaumont Commission shall act as an advisory commission
to the City Council of the City of Beaumont and is hereby authorized to adopt bylaws. The
Drug Free Beaumont Commission is charged with efforts to respond to the growing drug
abuse and substance abuse problem in Beaumont by uniting government, the private
sector, schools and non-profit organizations in a concerted effort to fight the war on drugs
in Beaumont. Members of the Drug Free Beaumont Commission shall be appointed by the
City Council. Of the fifteen (15) members first appointed seven (7) shall be appointed for
a term of two (2) years and eight (8) shall be appointed for a term of three (3) years,
thereafter the term of office of each member shall be two (2) years or until a successor is

appointed. A chairperson and vice-chairperson of the commission shall be appointed by
the Mayor. Vacancies shall be filled by the City Council for the unexpired term. Members
of the Drug Free Beaumont Commission shall serve without compensation and all
members of such commission shall be subject to removal at the will and pleasure of the
City Council.
Section 2.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the
application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances should for any reason
be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this
ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are
declared to be severable.
Section 3.
That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed to the
extent of the conflict only.
