ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 6 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE TESTING BOARD AND ESTABLISH AN ELECTRICAL REGISTRATION CLASSIFICATION OF JOURNEYMAN SIGN ERECTOR; PROVIDE FOR TESTING; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL AND PROVIDING A PENALTY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: Section 1. THAT Chapter 6, Section 6-51 be and the same is hereby amended to change the designation "Sign Erector" to "Journeyman Sign Erector" without amending the definition. Section 2. That Chapter 6, Section 6-72(e) shall be amended to read as follows: It shall be the duty of such board to recommend to the mayor and city manager two (2) persons to serve on the Southeast Texas Regional Electrical Certification Board. These persons shall participate in such board according to the agreement and bylaws of the Southeast Texas Regional Electrical Certification Board. Section 3. That Chapter 6, Section 6-81(6) be and the same is amended to read as follows: Section 6-81(6). Journeyman Sign Erector Section 4. That Chapter 6, Section 6-82(a) and 6-82(c)(6) be amended to read as follows: 6-82(a) All applicants for examination for masters, journeyman, maintenance and master sign electrician shall be referred to the Southeast Texas Regional Electrical Certification Board. All applicants for the I F Journeyman Sign Erector's registration must successfully complete a competency exam administered by the Chief Building Official or his designee. Section 6-82(c)(6) is hereby amended to read as follows: Registration Annual Surety Renewal Bond Journeyman Sign Erector 5.00 5.00 None Section 5. That Chapter 6, Section 6-85(b) and (c) are hereby amended to read as follows: 6-85(b) The annual renewal fee shall be twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for master electricians and limited electrician (sign) and five dollars ($5.00) for journeymen, maintenance, and journeyman sign erectors. 6-85(c) Annual renewal fees for master and limited electrician (sign) are due January 1 and payable on or before January 31 of each year. Licenses will be declared invalid unless the annual renewal fee is paid on or before June 30 of each year. License holders who have not paid their annual renewal fee will not be permitted to perform work or be issued permits after January 31 of each year. A reinstatement fee of ten dollars ($10.00) will be assessed to those failing to renew by January 31 of each year. The annual renewal fees for journeyman, maintenance, and journeyman sign erectors and shall be paid on or before December 31. Licenses may not be renewed so long as annual fees remain unpaid. Section 6. That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances should for any reason be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable. Section 7. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed to the I extent of the conflict only. Section 5. That any person who violates any provision of this ordinance shall, upon conviction, be punished as provided in Section 1-8 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont, Texas.
