ORDINANCE NO.
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE ORDINANCE
88-16 WHICH CALLED A GENERAL ELECTION TO BE
HELD IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT ON THE 7TH DAY
OF MAY, 1988 TO ADD A PROVISION WHICH WOULD
REQUIRE THE CITY OF BEAUMONT TO COLLECT OR
CAUSE TO BE COLLECTED ALL RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE
TWO (2 ) TIMES EACH WEEK.
WHEREAS, the City has received and the City Clerk has
certified an Initiative Petition proposing an ordinance requiring
that the City shall collect or cause to be collected all
residential garbage two (2 ) times each week; and,
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Charter of the City of
Beaumont, the City Council desires to place this question on the
ballot for the general election to be held in the City of
Beaumont on the 7th day of May, 1988;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1 .
THAT Ordinance No. 88-16 heretofore passed by the City Council of
the City of Beaumont on the 16th day of February, 1988 , be, and
the same is hereby, amended to amend Section 5 to read as
follows:
"Section 5 .
That notice of said election shall be given by
publishing said notice, as set out herein, in a
newspaper of general circulation in the city and county
one ( 1 ) time, not more than twenty-five (25 ) days nor
less than ten ( 10 ) days before said election. Said
notice shall be in the following form:

NOTICE OF A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION IN THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING
A MAYOR AND TWO (2 ) COUNCILMEMBERS-AT-LARGE
AND CONSIDERING AN INITIATED ORDINANCE
REQUIRING THE CITY TO COLLECT OR CAUSE TO BE
COLLECTED ALL RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE TWO (2 )
TIMES EACH WEEK.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT A GENERAL
MUNICIPAL ELECTION, AS PROVIDED BY THE
CHARTER OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT AND THE
STATUTES OF THE STATE OF TEXAS, WILL BE HELD
IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT ON THE 7TH DAY OF
MAY, 1988 , FROM 7 :00 A.M. TO 7:00 P.M. FOR
THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR AND TWO ( 2 )
COUNCILMEMBERS-AT-LARGE AND CONSIDERING AN
INITIATED ORDINANCE REQUIRING THE CITY TO
COLLECT OR CAUSE TO BE COLLECTED ALL
RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE TWO (2 ) TIMES EACH WEEK.
COPY OF SAID NOTICE SHALL BE FILED WITH THE
COUNTY CLERK OF JEFFERSON COUNTY, TEXAS, AND
ANOTHER COPY SHALL BE POSTED ON A BULLETIN
BOARD IN THE OFFICE OF SAID COUNTY CLERK AT
LEAST TWENTY (20 ) DAYS PRIOR TO SAID
ELECTION. "
Section 2.
That Section 6 of such ordinance shall be amended to
provide that the ballot will read as follows:
GENERAL ELECTION
CITY OF BEAUMONT
JEFFERSON COUNTY, TEXAS
MAY 7 , 1988
OFFICIAL BALLOT
MAYOR
(Vote for None or One)
FOR COUNCILMEMBER-AT-LARGE
(Vote for None, One or Two)
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING TWICE-A-WEEK PICKUP ON
ALL RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
The city shall collect or cause to be collected all
residential garbage two (2 ) times each week.

Section s.
The remainder of Ordinance 88-16, as passed on February
16 , 1988 , is hereby readopted.
