COMMENT The ordinance granted a specific use permit for a women and children's shelter at 2125 Victoria. This is an emergency shelter for battered women and their children (SIC Code 8322). Janet N. Walker, Executive Director, has requested permission to replace the 550 sq. ft. garage apartment that was located in the rear of 2125 Victoria with an 832 sq. ft. 1-story accessory structure that will be used for children's activities. This is an increase of 282 sq. feet. The old garage apartment was situated on the property line and has been demolished. The children's building will have dimensions of 26' x 32' and will have an open, unenclosed porch added which will have a dimension of 4' x 8'. The structure will have a residential design and a false garage door so that the building will not look out of place in this residential area. This structure will be set off from the rear and south property lines by a minimum of five (5) feet. The Director of Planning may approve minor variations from the original permit which do not increase density, change traffic patterns, or result in any increase in external impact on adjacent properties or neighborhoods. The lot next door to this proposed structure is another women's shelter owned by the applicant. The structure will have a residential appearance. The children are the offspring of the female clients. Density of land use is not being increased nor is there an increase in the external impact to adjacent properties. Mrs. Walker's request shows only a minor variation from the original permit.
