ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE
CODE OF ORDINANCES BY OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT BY
ADDING SECTION 2-53 TO PROVIDE FOR COUNCIL POLICY
REGARDING APPOINTED BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL,
AND PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That Chapter 2, of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont be and the
same is hereby amended by adding Section 2-53 to read as follows:
"Section 2-53.
"The city council shall appoint one (1) of its number to serve as an ex
officio member without vote to each board and commission appointed
by the city council. The city council shall appoint a chairman and vice-
chairman for each board and commission for terms of one year unless
otherwise provided by law. Any appointed member of any board or
commission who fails to attend three (3) regular meetings in succession
without notifying the chairman in advance or who does not attend at
least sixty (60) percent of the regularly scheduled board meetings in a
twelve-month period will be considered to have automatically resigned
from the board or commission. The city manager or his designee shall
monitor attendance and maintain attendance records for boards and
commissions and notify the city council of resignations under this
section."
Section 2.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or
the application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason
be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this ordinance,
and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be
severable.
Section 3.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed to the
extent of the conflict only.
Section 4.
That any person who violates any provision of this ordinance shall, upon
conviction, be punished as provided in Section 1-8 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Beaumont, Texas. -}
