ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 6 ,
SECTION 6-170 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT TO ADOPT THE 1988 EDITION OF
THE STANDARD MECHANICAL CODE; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL AND
PROVIDING A PENALTY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1 .
THAT Chapter 6, Section 6-170 of the Code of Ordinances
of the City of Beaumont be, and the same is hereby, amended to read
as follows:
Section 6-170•
There is hereby adopted by the City, for the
purpose of establishing rules and regulations
for air conditioning, heating and ventilating
equipment, refrigeration, ducts and duct
systems, piping, incinerators and electrical
requirements for same, that certain code known
as the Standard Mechanical Code recommended by
the Southern Building Code Congress
International, Inc. , being particularly the
1988 edition of which one copy has been and now
is filed in the office of the City Clerk for
the City and the same is hereby adopted and
incorporated as fully as if set out at length
herein, and from the date on which this article
shall take effect, the provisions thereof shall
be controlling in the construction of air
conditioning, heating, and ventilating
equipment, refrigeration equipment, ducts and
duct systems, piping, incinerators and the
electrical requirements for same, save and
except the portions of the Standard Mechanical
Code which are hereby deleted, substituted,
modified or amended as set forth in this
article.
Section 2.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a

particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason
be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the
remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various
portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be
severable.
Section 3.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are repealed to the extent of the conflict only.
Section 4.
Any person who violates any provision of this ordinance
shall, upon conviction, be punished as provided in Section 1 -8 of
the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas.
