ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT TO ADOPT A
NEW SECTION 6-20 ADOPTING THE 1988 EDITION OF
THE STANDARD BUILDING CODE; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL AND
PROVIDING A PENALTY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1 .
That Chapter 6 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Beaumont be, and the same is hereby, amended by adopting a new
Section 6-20 to read as follows:
Section 6-20 •
There is hereby adopted by the City for, the purpose of
establishing rules and regulations for the construction,
alteration, removal, demolition, equipment, use and occupancy,
location and maintenance of buildings and structures, that
certain Building Code known as the Standard Building Code
being particularly the 1988 edition thereof, with the
exception of Appendix "J". One copy of such Standard
Building Code has been and now is filed in the office of the
City Clerk of the City and the same is hereby adopted and
incorporated as fully as if set out at length herein, and from
the date on which this section shall take effect, the
provisions thereof shall be controlling in the construction,
alteration, repair, removal, demolition, equipment and
maintenance of all buildings and other structures within the
corporate limits of the City, save and except the portion to
the Standard Building Code which are hereby deleted,
substituted, modified or amended, as set forth in this
article.
Section 2.
Section 6-21 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Beaumont is hereby amended to amend Section 903.1 .1 of the Standard
Building Code to add Occupancy Group "S": "Group S - Storage in
all buildings exceeding two thousand (2, 000) square feet".

Section 3.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a
particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason
be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the
remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various
portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be
severable.
Section 4.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are repealed to the extent of the conflict only.
Section 5.
Any person who violates any provision of this ordinance
shall, upon conviction, be punished as provided in Section 1 -8 of
the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas.
